Good afternoon, everyone!
As entomologists we know that many of our survey and research activities capture numerous specimens in addition to the insects we are studying… sometimes at ghastly levels. There has been a recent surge of interest in the problem and value of bycatch across entomology, and some of us would like to organize a symposium on this topic for the ESA annual meeting in St. Louis, 17-20 November 2019. We are interested in hearing from colleagues across the entomological spectrum, including scientists of all backgrounds and career stages, and any discussion of bycatch from trap efficacy to storing vials of goopy spiders. If you have a topic you think would be a good fit, please reach out – if you’re worried it’s weird, so much the better!
If you think you’d like to be part of this, please send your tentative topic and a sentence or two about yourself to Louis Hesler (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Chris Looney (email@example.com).
