One of the well-done video channels I subscribe to on YouTube is theBrainScoop, by Emily Graslie for the Field Museum of Natural History. One of her latest is about a subject that gets little attention because everyone is embarrassed to bring it up, but I would bet most of you have at least one story you'd rather forget: Periods + Fieldwork.
There are other issues of safety during fieldwork, featured in the PLOS ONE article Survey of Academic Field Experiences (SAFE): Trainees Report Harassment and Assault. Does your university have policies in place that cover field experiences?
Going out into the field to do research can be transformative--unlike being in the lab or the classroom, there can be fewer distractions dividing your attention. What would you share with others about preparation for field experiences?
